Dear QH101,
Last week, I learned that Disney was funding the architects of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill in Florida.
After an online backlash, Disney CEO Bob Chapek doubled down, refusing to end contributions to the bill’s sponsors. The bill passed today.
This June, Disney and other pro-hate corporations will advertise themselves with floats, merchandise, and rainbow logos at Pride parades across the country.
These sponsors of hate will attempt to gaslight us, duping us into thinking they aren’t funding our persecution.
I cannot support any festivity that permits pro-hate companies to deceive the LGBTQ+ community for only a corporate float fee.
So, I have drafted a petition that calls on NYC Pride––and Pride organizations across the country––to ban the logos and company names of entities that refuse to sign a Pride Pledge:
1. Condemning LGBTQ+ hate bills as compiled by the ACLU.
2. Suspending contributions to legislators who vote for LGBTQ+ hate bills.
Companies that fail to make these simple promises are not allies and should not be allowed to participate in Pride marches in June.
And because employees often have little control over a company’s political actions, Pride organizations should allow them to march in parades independently, without a formal group affiliation, free of charge.
I plan to protest any Pride march that allows sponsors of hate to participate. I hope you will join me.
Please consider signing the petition at fakeallies.org.
Then, don’t forget to email your local Pride organization directly, using the contact information in the petition.
Pride began as an act of liberation from institutions that harm and exploit us.
Together, we can make it ours once again.
Love,
Eric
