Happy 2022 everyone! We'll be back to our regular queer history programming next week, but first, I wanted to announce the first Deviant's Book Club selection of the year.

It is…

Tell Me How to Be by Neel Patel

Tell Me How to Be, at its core, is about a mother and her gay son: Renu, who is still hung up on the man she almost married decades ago, and her 28-year-old son, Akash, a broke LA-based songwriter with tons of emotional baggage.

Renu invites her sons to their family home in Illinois, and all sorts of drama goes down. This book is hysterical, it’s heartbreaking, and it’s a beautiful examination of sexuality and race from the perspective of a wonderful queer Indian-American author. I think it’s a must-read.

Go check it out, support queer authors and independent bookshops, and let me know what you think!

And if you haven't already, don't forget to subscribe to Queer History 101 here!
